Georgia is a country with a rich history. In antique myths it was known as the country of “the golden fleece”, Argonauts and the refuge of the rebellious Prometheus. As long as ten centuries B.C. an intense trade was held on the territory of Georgia. Finickier traders penetrated here on their ships from the Mediterranean. A century later the Greeks appeared, who learnt the skill of ore smelting from the native inhabitants.

The nature of the republic is unparalleled- humid subtropics of the Black Sea coast, diversity and wealth of mountain forests, rich pastures of the Alpine zone, curative mineral springs. People come to Georgia for treatment, for rest and traveling. Those, who visit it, may observe the pictures of all seasons in several days: ice-capped mountain peaks, new grass, just beginning to shoot on foothills, a hot summer among evergreen palm-trees.

Georgia is rightfully considered an ancient land of grape wine. Viticulture is cultivated in most of its countryside regions. Thick, resinous, pomegranate -– red and golden-amber colored wines of Kakheti, light, crystal, sparkling wines of West Georgia, champagne and branded cognacs are world famous.

The Glory of Georgia are its resorts. There are over 220 of them – high mountainous and sea-side, good for treatment and climatic ones. Most of them function all the year round. The Black Sea-side resorts of Georgia are most popular. People are attracted here by a caressing sun, luxuriant subtropical vegetation, mild climate.

Batumi, the capital of the Adjarian Autonomous Republic, lies on the shore of a deep bay. It is bathed in greenery all the year round. The town boasts the Batumi Botanical Garden which has one of the world’s largest collections of subtropical flora. Of much interest are visits to the Dolphinarium and the Aquarium which has principal species of commercial fish and Black Sea fauna on display.

Situated 30 kilometers from Batumi is still another Adjarian resort, Kobuleti. It is famous for its splendid 12-kilometer-long beach bordering upon which for almost its entire length are pine gloves. The resort is beneficial for people suffering from various cardiovascular, lung and windpipe diseases. Its historical and architectural attractions include the ruins of the ancient Peter Fortress, which are to be seen in the village of Tsikhisdziri not far from the town.

Nobody can remain indifferent to Tbilisi – a city with a population of a million and a half. The capital-city of Georgia is one of the greatest industrial and cultural centers of the country. “Tbilisi” in Georgian mean “warm”. Tbilisi is actually a warm, kind, hospitable city.

The hospitable Georgia is always ready to receive foreign visitors, who can rest, improve their health, and get ineffaceable impressions here.
